In a coastal village, there was a lighthouse. Since the area had lot of ships transportation it was necessary to have a light house there.
Because the sea in that area was filled with rocks, ships would avoid the rocky area and sail towards a safe path, guided by the light of the lighthouse. The light in the lighthouse was lit through oil. A new keeper had recently joined to operate the lighthouse. His name is Raju.
The ship companies regularly supplied the necessary fuel to the lighthouse keeper to ensure that the lighthouse continued to emit the required light without any interruption. The main responsibility of the lighthouse keeper was to maintain the lighthouse’s light and keep it shining brightly without any interruption.
Everything continued to go well. One cold winter night, someone knocked on the door of the lighthouse. The lighthouse keeper opened the door and found a man standing there. The man from the nearby village. He was shivering in the cold.
The man said, “Sir, I have run out of oil at my home, and it’s extremely cold. You seem like a very kind person. If you could spare me some oil, I would greatly appreciate it. I will return it to you as soon as I can.”
The lighthouse keeper was a generous person and agreed to help. He provided the man with some oil to keep warm, and the man promised to return it soon.
The following night, again, there was a knocking sound at the lighthouse door, When the lighthouse keeper opened the door, he found a traveler waiting there.
The traveler said, “Sir, the people in the nearby village spoke highly of your kindness and generosity. I had to urgently visit the neighboring village for a very important job. Unfortunately, I ran out of oil on my way here. It’s a critical situation. If you could spare me some oil for my journey, I would be extremely grateful.”
The lighthouse keeper, filled with compassion, handed over some oil to the traveler, saying, “Take this oil and use it for your journey. I hope it helps you on your way.”
On the next night, the lighthouse keeper faced another visitor, an elderly woman. She said, “Young man, I have a baby who urgently needs milk. I had run out of oil at home. Please lend me some oil to boil the milk for the child. You are like an angel sent by God to help me.”
Touched by her plea, the Raju gave her some oil as well, saying, “Here is some oil for you. May it help your baby recover. I’m glad to assist you.”
It was weekend, the cart with the oil for the lighthouse was scheduled to arrive after two days only. Raju, as usual, went to oil from the cart. He realized that the oil in the cart will not be enough to last until the arrival of the cart.
Understanding the urgency of the situation, he poured the remaining oil from the cart to the lamp and rushed towards the village. He knew that he needed more oil to keep the light shining for two more days. He approached those who had borrowed oil from him earlier and asked, “Please return the oil you borrowed as soon as possible. It’s an emergency.” But no one turned out to help Raju.
The next day, Raju, couldn’t refill the lamp with oil at night, as there was no more oil left, causing the light to go out. Unfortunately, on that night, two ships were approaching the rocky shores of the lighthouse, and without the guiding light, they mistakenly sailed into the rocky area, resulting in a collision with the rocks.
Due to his mistake, which had dire consequences, the lighthouse keeper felt a tremendous sense of guilt and responsibility. His error had cost the lives of over a hundred people.
He should have planned for his needs first that it doesn’t interrupt his daily work which is very important. Then he should donated the oil.
Unplanned works will result in destruction.
